Tributes to the Late Michael O’Regan

Danny Healy Rae, TD.

“I have been following and listening to his view and opinions since early March 1997 when he gave my father a real possible chance of winning a Dáil Seat the following June 1997 General Election.

His vast knowledge of politics both local and national acquired over his lifetime in political journalism ensured that the view he came out with was always right, as a Kerry political representative it has always been important to me to listen or hear what his view was on the latest or any topic, his voice will never be forgotten – Rest in Peace Michael” – Danny Healy Rae, TD

Councillor Michael Cahill

Fianna Fáil Councillor, Michael Cahill has also expressed his sadness at the passing of Michael O’Regan – whom he described as ‘a friend and fellow Kerryman.’

“It is with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Michael O’Regan, a proud Kerryman and a top class political journalist. My sincere sympathies go to his family at this sad time. Michael reported on Irish politics since the 80’s and he had an amazing insight into all political parties in the state.

“He was a gentleman in the true sense of the word and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He had a brilliant radio voice and his newspaper columns and radio broadcasts were eagerly awaited by all those with an interest in Irish politics, both local and national. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis” said Councillor Cahill.

Brendan Griffin, TD

Brendan Griffin, TD said he is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Michael O’Regan.

He was a kind and decent man, and a brilliant journalist and broadcaster. But my thoughts today are with his family and friends, who will miss him immensely.

Gone far too young, he was a giant in Irish political discourse who always stayed in touch with the ordinary people.

Personally, I’ll never forget him for taking the time to stop and chat in the corridors of Leinster House in my early days in Dáil Éireann, imparting his wisdom and knowledge to a young and slightly daunted TD ‘from the other side of the mountain’.

Rest in peace and thank you, Michael, a great Kerryman. Politics in Kerry and Ireland just won’t be the same without you.”
