You begin at birth with paint and brush
The world supplies the canvas
You daub and splash in no real rush
To cover all the blankness
In time your hands grow steadier
Your lines more straight and true
You choose your colours braver
Blending each rich hue
You grow and work, you find a mate
You paint a family picture
You build a life, and call it fate
A vibrant loving mixture
Yet sad the world can sometimes plan
To halt you in mid flourish
That masterpiece beneath your hand
Remains a life unfinished
But don’t despair and feel the loss
For the life left undefined
Your love will guide your children’s brush
Your life’s work now entwined
