
Donie McCarthy, a much loved and respected player, member and coach within Firies GAA Club was celebrated on Saturday July 20th when his wife Bernie McCarthy and his daughters, family, friends and former Fires GAA club mates presented a welcomed donation of €2,500 to the Kerry Hospice in his memory.
This donation was from the Donie Mac Golf Classic which took place in the scenic Maine Valley Members Golf Club in Killorglin where a large contingent gathered in support of the McCarthy family and Kerry Hospice.
Mary Shanahan from Hospice Palliative Care acknowledged the donation and sincerely thanked the McCarthy family and Firies GAA Club for their work and contribution.
Donie’s wife, Bernie also lent a hand to award the golf classic prizes which were presented in the Forge in Henderson’s where the following prizes were presented.

Longest Drive on the first : Gary Stynes. Longest Drive on the 14th: Conn O’Connor and James McCarthy. Nearest to the Pin on the fifth: Dermot O’Connor and James Lynch. Nearest to the Pin on the 17th: Kieran O’Brien.
