The welcome work on replacing cracked and dangerously uneven footpaths on Main Street here in Castleisland began last week outside the door of the new Castleisland Community Museum at No. 42.

The venue had just ushered the final, for now, delegation of four groups from the local day care centre out the door the day before the rooting began.

It was decided that no further public activity would take place there for health and safety concerns until after the concrete has been poured and cured and the work teams have moved away.

Plans have also been firmed up about the day-time opening of the museum and, from Monday, September 23rd. it will be open daily from 2pm to 6pm Monday to Friday inclusive and other times by appointment.

First Art Exhibition

Plans are being put in place for an evening of cultural activity around but not officially connected to Culture Night.

The Thursday night of September 19th is being ringed on the calendar as the night of activity and it’s the occasion on which the venue will open its first exhibition by a local artist.

There will be music, song and poetry between 8pm and 10pm or shortly after and tea / coffee and edibles will be on offer.

There is no charge for entry and there’s no law against popping something into the donations bucket to help keep the lights on in the venue.

Over the Long Winter

It would be nice to think that evenings and gatherings like this can play their part in guiding us all over the long winter nights ahead.

Ideas for theme evenings are welcomed and all reasonable suggestions will be considered.

Meanwhile, the Timothy Murphy Memorial Photographic Competition will remain open for longer than originally planned  – by suggestion.

The narrow time frame and equally so subject matter attracted genuine enquiries and helpful suggestions. These have broadened the subjects to simply good photographs on any topic or location with a closing date now stretched to the end of September.
