Corcha Dhuibhne Tints to Tuesday Evening’s Return of Padre Pio Devotions at 7:30pm

Corcha Dhuibhne born, renowned Irish artist Liam O’Neill will tell his story of ill health and recovery at the return of this season’s Padre Pio devotions on the coming Tuesday evening, September 10th in Castleisland at 7:30pm.

The Padre Pio Devotions are scheduled to restart on the coming Tuesday evening, September 10th at 7:30pm at the Church of Saints Stephen and John here in Castleisland.

The devotions will continue on the second Tuesday of each month thereafter until further notice. The witness on this first evening back will be delivered by Liam O’Neill – a West Kerry man, a teacher and top contemporary artist.

The theme of Liam’s witness will be about a time when his health was deteriorating fast and the future for him was very bleak.

St. Pio’s Healing Glove

Fortunately, an encounter with St. Pio’s healing glove changed everything. Liam is here in Castleisland on the second Tuesday, September 10th to tell the story – an amazing and compelling witness.

Born on Corcha Dhuibhne, West Kerry in 1954, he left aged 17 to pursue a teaching career, but returned there in 2002 to pursue his passion for painting.

During his time in Dublin he developed his own personal style while painting street scenes and Smithfield horse market with its many characters.

Fishermen and Famous Figures

His paintings wonderfully depict the west coast, it’s harbours, musicians, horse fairs, fishermen and famous figures he meets every day there.
With both palette knife and brush he paints in oils to gain true understanding of the scene or person before him. Liam is a self-taught painter. Inspiration for his work stems from his beloved Dingle, its people and the daily happenings and events therein.
When Liam paints scenes of Kerry his own relationship with the landscape appears time and time again in the rhythmic brush strokes and play on colours.

Endless Inspiration to Paint

His home provides him with endless inspiration and reasoning to paint his surrounds.

He describes his response to his home when he says ‘‘I paint that which makes this area unique, the special views: Brandon, the Blaskets, and The Three Sisters. They are the backbone of the place, from which it takes its structure. They are powerful symbols. And then there are the fields, the walls, the people and the animals.”
