We’re in the Bleak Mid Winter – But There’s Better Weather to Come

After a turbulent few days on the weather front with rain and strong winds dominating conversations, it seems that we can look forward to a more stable week ahead.

Today was a typical bleak mid winder’s day but there’s better to come. Have a read of the Met Éireann forecast here:

Tonight

Early tonight, fresh to strong, gusty northwest winds will continue along with occasional showers. Later tonight, showers will mostly die out and winds will gradually ease. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees.

Tommorrow – Sunday 8th December

Sunday will be mainly dry with sunny spells and a few isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees with moderate to fresh northerly winds.

National Outlook

Overview: High pressure will build over Ireland early next week bringing more settled conditions. It will turn colder with frost and icy patches, as well as areas of mist and fog.
Sunday night: A cold and mostly dry night with clear spells. Frost and icy patches are possible as temperatures drop to between -2 to +5 degrees and northerly winds ease light to moderate. Patches of mist and fog may form where winds ease light and variable in the northwest overnight.
Monday: Some mist and fog may be slow to clear in the northwest through the morning and may possibly linger through much of the day. Otherwise, most areas will be dry with sunny spells but it will be cloudy at times in the east and southeast, with the possibility of some isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 3 to 9 degrees in a light northerly breeze.
Monday night: Cold with frost and icy patches. A dry night with clear spells but areas of mist and fog, or even freezing fog will form in light winds. Lowest temperatures of -4 to +2 degrees, coldest away from the east coast.
Tuesday: Frost, ice, mist and fog will be slow to clear on Tuesday morning and some fog patches may linger in some parts through the day. There will be some sunshine though elsewhere. Highest temperatures of 1 to 7 degrees, mildest along the east coast.
Tuesday night: Another dry, cold and frosty night with temperatures falling to between -3 and +1 degrees allowing for ice patches to develop. Dense areas of mist and fog will also form in light variable winds.
Wednesday: A cold and frosty start to Wednesday with icy patches. Widespread mist and fog will be slow to clear, again lingering in parts through the day. Highest temperatures of 1 to 8 degrees, coldest in the north.
