Lisa Fingleton Returns as Kerry County Council Visual Artist in Residence

Lisa Fingleton has returned to Kerry County Council in the role of Visual Artist in Residence for 2025. Backed by the Arts Council of Ireland, the programme is delivered as part of a co-funded arts residence initiative.

Kerry County Council, supported by the Arts council has announced Lisa Fingleton as its Visual Artist in Residence for 2025.

The residence programme is delivered as part of a co-funded arts programme to promote access to, participation in, and standards of practice in the art form- in this case visual arts. Interested individuals, groups, schools and artists (professional and amateur) who would like to reserve time with Lisa to develop their skills or visual arts projects can register their interest by email to arts@kerrycoco.ie . ‘Interest in our residency programme is always very high, I advise people who would like to avail of this opportunity to contact us sooner rather than later,’ said Kate Kennelly, Arts Officer.

Peer Mentoring

During the residency, the artist helps to mentor peers in addition to creating opportunities for people to get actively involved in visual arts. Lisa has great experience and brings a wealth of inspiration to her current role.

Lisa is an artist, filmmaker, writer and grower who has spent over twenty years cultivating deep-rooted connections between art, food, nature and peace. Her studio is based at The Barna Way, an organic farm, woodland and wildlife sanctuary near Ballybunion. Her practice is multidisciplinary and includes socially engaged, collaborative and performative projects; moving image; large scale installations; as well as drawing and creative writing.

North Kerry Sustainability Day

The last year has been a busy year, where, alongside her role as the Visual Artist in Residence with Kerry County Council, Lisa is also the embedded artist with Brilliant Ballybunion – a Creative Climate Action Project. Brillliant Ballybunion works with local community collaborators to protect nature, grow food and be creative all at the same time. This weekend they hosted a hugely successful North Kerry Sustainability Day which included art work with students from Scoil Iosagain School Ballybunion, entitled The Future We Want To Be.

Lisa is currently showcasing her work influenced by these projects and programmes with an exhibition titled The Square Tomato which runs at Siamsa Tire until March 22nd 2025. The exhibition features new works created with Creative Climate Action Projects, Kerry Visual Artist in Residence programme and time at Navdanya centre, India. Lisa visited Navdanya centre in India in September 2024. As part of the exhibition a film of an interview with philosopher, physicist, environmentalist and activist Dr. Vandana Shiva is displayed.

Exhibition Tours and Workshops

The Square Tomato is supported by Creative Ireland (Creative Climate Action Fund), Siamsa Tire, The Arts Council and Kerry County Council Arts Office. Lisa is available to offer exhibition tours and workshops as part of the residency and is hosting an event for artists on the 8th March International Women’s Day.

In 2025 Lisa is looking forward to engaging with more schools and community groups interested in learning more about visual arts. She is looking forward to supporting artists too, towards helping to build and sustain their visual arts practice.
