Me and my equals are always straight out of traps when it comes to spreading the news on bad weather forecasts.

But we are, more often than not, reacting to requests from Kerry County Council to do our bit in getting the news out of one impending period of doom and gloom or another.

However, when it comes to the kind of weather we’re currently enjoying, we just dry up and join in whatever the beautiful days and long evenings prompt us to get up to.

I declare to God, but current spell wasn’t a couple of days old when people were wondering “is this our summer now?

The more pessimistic are wondering “will we pay for this later on.”

However, even the most pessimistic can take comfort from the Met Éireann forecast for the weekend and beyond.

Today – Thursday 8th May

Dry today with spells of sunshine. There is a slight chance of an isolated shower in the south. Highest temperatures will range from a cool 12 degrees in the east, due to a moderate easterly breeze, to 19 or 20 degrees in the west.

Tonight

Dry and mostly clear overnight. Cloudier for a time in the southwest with the chance of a few light showers. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees generally, possibly a little lower locally, in light easterly or variable breezes with a few mist or fog patches developing.

Tomorrow – Friday 9th May

Dry and sunny tomorrow morning though some cloud will develop through the day bringing the chance of a few showers, most likely in the west and southwest. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees generally, a little cooler near some coasts in a light southerly or variable breeze.

National Outlook

Overview: Predominately dry at first. Turning more unsettled through Sunday and into early next week.
Friday night: Dry and clear for most. A little cloudier in parts of the west and southwest with the chance of the odd light shower continuing. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 9 degrees, coolest in the southwest, in light southerly or variable breezes with some areas of fog developing.
Saturday: Any fog will clear through the morning to leave a mostly dry day with spells of sunshine though with some cloud at times and a greater chance of some showers, most likely for Atlantic coastal counties. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in a light southerly or variable breeze.
Saturday night: Dry and largely clear overnight. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees in light variable breezes. Some areas of fog will develop again.
Sunday: There is some uncertainty in the details but indications are that it will be mostly dry and sunny at first before showers or showery outbreaks of rain develop through the day with some heavy falls possible. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees with a moderate northerly wind developing.
Sunday night: A mild night with further showers or showery outbreaks of rain. Temperatures will not fall below 8 to 11 degrees in moderate northeasterly winds, fresher near western coasts.
Monday: Showers or showery outbreaks of rain are likely to continue through much of the day. Generally driest and sunniest in the north where it will be warmest. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees generally in a moderate northeast or east wind. The rain and showers will continue overnight but they will ease. Temperatures will not fall below 8 to 12 degrees.
Tuesday: There is a signal for improving conditions as the showers clear southwards through the day as mostly dry and sunny conditions in the north become more widespread. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees generally in a mostly moderate easterly wind.
Further Outlook: Current indications suggest drier and more settled conditions as high pressure returns.
