Garvey’s SuperValu, Castleisland branch manager, Séamus O’Connor recently presented the store’s annual donation of plants to Castleisland Tidy Towns volunteers.

Castleisland Tidy Towns have been in touch to highlight that they are again delighted for the superb support they receive from the local and always helpful Garveys SuperValu and its manager, Seamus O’Connor.

SuperValu is the national sponsor of the Tidy Towns competition and Seamus is always so very very supportive and more than willing to help the local Tidy Towns group.

He recently presented an extensive array of plants to the group including the all important pollinator plants like Cosmos which are so important in sustaining native bee population the group outlined.

Residents and Volunteers Active

Plants such as begonias are also extensively used in the annual planting as they use a lot less water so are great from a sustainability perspective.

Over the past few weeks residents groups on the approach roads and individual volunteers who

adopted tubs, along with community employment workers and volunteers have been busily planting in anticipation of the judging of the town in the national Tidy Towns competition.

The volunteer ‘Tidy Town Tuesdays’ are also in full swing also each Tuesday night from 7 to 8pm and the Tidy Towns group members are appealing to anyone with an hour to spare to help keep their town looking its best to turn out on Tuesday evening for one hour.

Just One of the 168 Weekly Hours

As they point out, out of the 168 hours in everybody’s week they ask you to give just one to make a big difference to your town.

The group meets on Main Street at 7pm each Tuesday evening to carry out particular projects such as weeding, planting and painting etc.

In the past week they have planted tubs, weeded the Killarney Road roundabout and removed vegetation impacting the Mural at the Market Cross at the Pound Road / Tralee road junction.

As the national Tidy Towns adjudication takes place over the coming weeks they are asking all property owners to do that little bit extra to have their premises looking its best for all.
