Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill has welcomed confirmation from Iarnród Éireann that additional train capacity and a special return service will now be provided for Kerry supporters travelling to and from the All-Ireland Quarter Final against Armagh this Sunday.
Following Deputy Cahill’s strong appeal earlier this week for increased transport options for Kerry fans, Iarnród Éireann has now confirmed that:
• Additional capacity on the 07:10 Tralee to Heuston train on Sunday morning, ensuring more fans can travel to Dublin in time for the match at Croke Park. • A special return train from Heuston to Tralee at 19:20 on Sunday evening, providing a much-needed travel option for supporters returning home after the game.
A Hugely Welcome Development
“This is a hugely welcome development and a direct response to the concerns raised by Kerry people throughout the county,” said Deputy Cahill. “I want to thank Iarnród Éireann for engaging positively and acting swiftly to ensure our supporters can get to and from this critical match.”
The move follows days of growing frustration from fans unable to secure return train tickets, with the only scheduled evening service already fully booked.
Making a Real Difference
“This special return service will make a real difference,” Cahill added. “It’s a common-sense solution that recognises the passion and loyalty of Kerry supporters who are travelling in their thousands to back the team.”
Deputy Cahill again thanked the supporters for their unity and strong backing of Kerry football, and praised the quick response from the relevant transport authorities.
“This weekend is about pride, county, and community, and now, thanks to these additional services, many more fans can be part of it in person. I’ll continue to work to ensure that public transport reflects the needs of rural counties like Kerry, especially during major national events,” said Deputy Cahill.
