Magnificient Seven in Line for Radio Kerry in PPI AWards

Radio Kerry has been nominated for seven awards in this year’s National PPI Radio Awards, the highest number of nominations received by a local station in this year’s competition.

Weeshie Fogarty has been nominated for Sports Broadcaster of the Year.

In the Current Affairs Programme category, the Kerry Today show – presented by Jerry O’Sullivan and produced by Treasa Murphy – made the final shortlist of five.

Specialist Speech Programme

The Agritime programme, presented and produced by Aisling O’Brien, has been nominated for Best Specialist Speech Programme.

Murt Mulcahy has been shortlisted in the Sports Story category for his series Finding Me in Sport which tells of how five Kerry athletes overcame obstacles in their lives through sport.

Radio Kerry has two nominations in the Short Feature category for the 20/20 and Just Once series.

Kerry County Museum

20/20 tells the story of the Kingdom through objects stored at Kerry County Museum and was made with the assistance of the museum.

Just Once was produced by the Kerry ETB/ Solas students of broadcasting who studied with Acting Manager of Radio Kerry Training, Shane O’Connor. The students’ Just Once series was also shortlisted in the PPI Innovation category.

44 PPI Awards

Since 2005, Radio Kerry has won 44 PPI awards – 14 gold, 12 silver and 18 bronze. The latest national JNLR listenership figures from July show that 86,000 people – or 75% of the population listening to radio in the county – tune into Radio Kerry every week.

The PPI Radio Awards will take place at the Lyrath Estate Hotel, Kilkenny on October 7th.
