Sinn Féin TD for Kerry Martin Ferris has welcomed the visit to Kerry of his party spokesperson on health, Louise O’Reilly TD, on Monday March 6th.
Deputy O’Reilly is in Kerry to speak to a number of different groups and organisations involved in the health care sector, as well as fulfilling media interviews.
“It is my pleasure to welcome Louise O’Reilly to Kerry to see first hand the problems that constituents and are having accessing services.
Kerry’s Ongoing Health Issues
“Over the past number of months I have been highlighting in the Dáil a number of ongoing health issues in Kerry,” said Deputy Ferris.
“These issues range from waiting times for cataract operations to the lack of respite beds and the ongoing crisis in mental health, not to mention morale of workers in the health sector which has taken a hammering over the past number of years.
“Louise will be meeting a number of groups who have concerns about the lack of progress in dealing with many of these issues.
Automatic Medical Cards
“Although Louise is a first term TD, I have been highly impressed with her grasp of the issues facing the health services.
“Back in July she was successful in passing a motion granting automatic medical cards for very sick children who receive Domiciliary Care Allowance and I am certain she has a lot more to offer patients and families in the coming months and years.
“As well as meeting advocacy groups, Louise, who has a background as a union official, will also meet union representatives and others involved in the health sector,” Deputy Ferris concluded.
