Castleisland Race Committee Charity Donations Total €132,876

Castleisland Festival and Race Committee presented cheques to nominated charities on Friday night in Tom McCarthy’s Bar.

This year €8,086 was raised and presented to the charities and organisations as follows: Glebe Lodge Residential Centre received €955 from the Humphrey Murphy Memorial 5k and 10k Road Race / Fun Run.

Drive-In-Bingo

Gaelscoil Aogáin received €1,205 from the Drive-in-Bingo and €1,576 from ticket sales. Castleisland Soccer Club, the main beneficiary from the race day, received €1,055 and €715 from ticket sales.

Feileacáin the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland received a contribution of €500. Castleisland and District Social Club received €250 and €330 from ticket sales.

Finally, St. Ita’s and St. Joseph’s School received €280 from the 40k cycle and €1,220 from ticket sales.

€132,876 Donated to Date

The total figure generated and donated to charities so far since the races began is a whopping €132,876.

“The annual cheques for charity presentations wouldn’t be possible without the generous sponsorship of the local businesses who support these worthy causes,” said committee spokesman, Pat Hartnett.

“We have a lot of people to thank, from those who support and take part in the various events on an annual basis – and the many people who provide us with sponsorship and venues.

“The race committee is grateful especially to our main sponsor ROL Construction London for their support every year and to Mossie Brosnan of Gortatlea Mart for the use of his lands for the races at Powell’s Road.

“A big thanks also to our hard working committee. Though small in number it managed and carried through a tremendous amount of work over almost three weeks this year,” Mr. Hartnett concluded.
