“I congratulate and complement them and their staff. Wishing them all the very best in the future,” said Danny on his old ‘Brawl in the Hall’ sparring partner.
Scrap Declared a Draw
Their ‘scrap’ was declared a draw after the referee and the judges failed to find evidence of either man’s glove landing a meaningful blow on the other.
Blind Corner to See Major Improvement – Cllr. Bobby O’Connell
Cllr. Bobby O’Connell donated €8,000 of his Kerry County Councillor’s allocation to the council’s work at Caheragh, Castleisland.
A Blind Junction
The work, which got underway on Wednesday last, involves removing a blind junction from Powell’s Road onto the always busy Scartaglin to Castleisland road.
“This is a job that’s been in the pipe-line for a while now and when the work is complete it will make it a lot safer for drivers to exit from the Powell’s Road onto the Scart Road.
Volume of Traffic
“You’d be surprised at the volume of traffic which goes through this junction every day and I’ve had many requests to have something done with it for a while.
“We has to acquire a corner of a field in the area before we could do anything there. But that’s all sorted and thankfully the work will be completed soon,” said Cllr. O’Connell.
Kate on Sinn Féin Ticket for May 2019 Local Elections
Sinn Féin members met in the River Island Hotel on Saturday evening to select candidates to go forward for next year’s local elections in the Tralee Municipal District, which comprises both Tralee and Castleisland Local Election Areas.
Poll Topping Councillors Daly and Ferris
Sitting councillors Pa Daly and Toireasa Ferris were the only ones received for Tralee.
The poll topping councillors have a proven track record for hard work and delivering for their constituents.
Kate McSweeney – A Record of Achievement
The Castleisland Sinn Féin Cumann nominated member, Kate McSweeney to contest the elections for their area. Her name was the only one to be put forward to the convention.
Kate is originally from Currow and now lives in Castleisland town, she is the former manager of An Riocht Health and Leisure Club in the town and is currently employed as a teacher in Knocknagoshel National School.
Deeply Honoured
“I am deeply honoured to receive the nomination from my fellow members of the party cumann in Castleisland,” said Kate in reaction to her selection.
“I am looking forward to the campaign ahead and getting to meet the people of Castleisland and the surrounding areas on the doorsteps.”
Second Fiddle
“Castleisland and it’s hinterland have always played second fiddle to the larger towns of Tralee and Killarney, this is a great opportunity to put the best of what our area has to offer to the fore.”
“I would like to thank the cumann membership and my family for their support.
“It will need a massive effort by all of us if we are to realise a seat in the new Castleisland LEA,” said Kate.
Rural Ireland Revival
Ms. McSweeney was taking time out from organising the coming Saturday evening’s conversation on the future of rural Ireland at the River Island Hotel at which Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald will attend and speak.
To complete the Sinn Féin picture for the May 2019 local elections the party’s Kerry team will also include, Robert Beasley and Tom Barry in North Kerry while Damien Quigg and John Buckley will be taking to the hustings in the South Kerry area.
