The Palliative Care Unit of the Kerry Hospice Foundation will be the beneficiary of Castleisland Rugby Club’s half of the innovative ‘Split The Bucket Draw’ on its first event of 2019 which will take place on this Friday night, January 4th.

The draw will be held in The Half Way Bar in Ballymacelligott.

Pushing for a Big Bucket

“A lot of funds are needed to keep this unit going so it would be great if the prize was good this week to help them,” said Nóirín Uí Chathasaigh, honorary club secretary.

“This is our way of thanking everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts to date and to the pubs, retailers and restaurants who have facilitate us on an ongoing basis. It is also, of course, our way of showing support for a very worthy cause.

Very Beneficial Impact

The ongoing draw is also having a very beneficial impact on the facilities and day to day running of the club according to chairman, Dan Casey.

“Thanks to the overwhelming response from the communities around to the draw we are able to get things done and make improvements for all our players from juvenile to senior. Every bob we make goes into the development of club facilities.

“When we launched this idea at the end of August we thought we’d be doing great if we got in €200 every week.

Close to €1,300

“But we’re close to €1,300 and the public has really thrown its support in behind us.

“We had a couple of hugely popular winners as well along the way. There were great celebrations on the nights Timmy Murphy and Jerry Courtney won and the draw nights themselves are great fun and we look forward to them.

“We’ve had winners from Ballymac and Brosna and that’s great too as the club here caters for players from all the surrounding parishes and they’re great supporters of club activity,” said Chairman Casey.

€2 in an Envelope

The club buckets can be found in all the venues outlined above. You just put your €2 in the envelope with your name and telephone number and pop it into the bucket and wait for the call.

To date, close on €20,000 has been won by locals in the various public houses where the draws are held weekly.
