Here is a list of motions and questions put down by your local elected representatives for this morning’s meeting of the Municipal District of Castleisland and Corca Dhuibhne.

Cllr. Bobby O’Connell:

That Kerry County Council try and ensure that Castleisland is included in the next round of Active Travel Funding.

Cllr. Fionnán Fitzgerald:

That Kerry County Council consider the erection of CCTV cameras at the junction between St. Stephen’s Park, Castleisland and The Ivy Leaf Arts Centre.

Cllr. Jackie Healy-Rae:

That Kerry County Council write to the relevant Minister seeking a further full waiver on rates for businesses until at least April 2022.

That when Management of this MD are meeting the Castleisland Chamber Alliance in future, that the elected members are invited to attend these meetings also. lt makes sense that the elected members, management and the chamber are all working together for the betterment of the LEA in a cohesive manner.

That Castleisland and Corca Dhuibhne MD address the hopes and concerns of the Inch Tourism and Development Committee as outlined in their development plan and prepare a plan for its speedy delivery.

Cllr. Breandán Fitzgerald:

That Castleisland and Corca Dhuibhne MD assist and help the Lispole Ambush Committee with all its plans and facilitate a commemoration to mark the centenary of the Lispole Ambush when Covid restrictions are lifted and that future plans for the road take into account the future location of the monument.

Cllr. Michael O’Shea:

To ask will Kerry County Council CPO derelict buildings I dwellings I disused buildings and return them to habitation. Neighbouring councils carry out this function successfully.

What is the update as to the development of the viewing point at Glounsharoon.

What is the up to date position with the playground equipment at the Halla le Cheile playground at An Clochan Brandon?

What CLAR funding has been applied for in the Castleisland LEA area?

With the increase in dog ownership it is time that dedicated Dog Parks be provided in the Castleisland LEA and the Corca Dhuibhne LEA by the Castleisland & Corca Dhuibhne MD.

I am calling on Kerry County Council to put serious measures in place to stop the current trend of the public rubbish bins in Castleisland town being filled with household rubbish by members of the public also some business people in the town have informed me they cannot put out their household and recyclable bins the previous night prior to collection days as they will be topped up by others. The problem with rubbish in our area has now reached unprecedented levels.

Once again I am calling on Kerry County Council/lrish Water to investigate the manhole in the lawn of a dwelling house. This manhole has been causing problems for the past 20 years, but over the last 12 months the smell has got extremely bad. I have raised this matter with a Motion 7 to 8 months ago and it seems that neither action nor ideas have been put forward.

When can we expect to see the NO DOGS/Cosc ar Mhadrai signs being erected at the relevant locations where walkers start their walks onto the mountains in the Corca Dhuibhne area?

To ask Kerry County Council to do a clean-up on the route between Knockavota East Cross via the Transfer Station to Ballyvirrane Cross i.e. the L4035, as there is visual evidence of severe dumping of waste in dykes and drains.

Can The Housing Department, in replying to applicants, give a breakdown as to the financial support being given in relation to any of The Housing Grants or why the application has failed Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability, Housing Aid for Older People and The Mobility Aids Housing Grant Scheme. Sometimes it can be difficult for the person concerned to see the connection between the amount granted, the quotation given by a contractor and the income of the household as a unit.

To ask when will Kerry County Council construct social houses on Kerry County Council owned land off Myles Lane, Milltown and will they also carry out a lighting programme on the same laneway between the L 12215 and L 12214 at Milltown Village.

That Kerry County Council install Traffic calming measures including speed ramps at Desmonds Avenue Castleisland.

Cllr. Fionnán Fitzgerald:

Can Kerry County Council erect larger signs pointing to The Glenageenty Walkways at the Roche’s Cross Junction where the N-21 intersects with the L-2014-0. 3.

Can Kerry County Council investigate the dangerous edge to the L-1 0636-0 opposite Flemby National School and consider how the road can be supported at this point.

Can Kerry County Council consider the erection of a rubbish bin on the L-11 045-0 between The Church and The National School at Firies Village. 5.

Will Kerry County Council put a work plan in place to modernize the Public Toilets in Dingle Town, Ceann Tra Beach car park and at Inch car park?

They are outdated, shabby looking and badly need to be brought up to modern standards.

Will Kerry County Council finish offthe tarring works on the Goulane road, in Lispole? 7.

Will Kerry County Council get the public outside lights at Aiseanna na hOige Child care Centre connected to the public lighting system? This issue is ongoing with the last fourteen years.

Will Kerry County Council put a channel in place to remove the water which is constantly flowing on the foot path at the Spa Road, Dingle? This can be very slippery and dangerous to walk on especially in times of frosty weather.

Cllr. Jackie Healy-Rae:

Is Management of this MD going to facilitate outdoor dining for businesses in Castleisland by extending the footpath area which may encompass a number of parking bays, if so, when will this be done?

Cllr. Jackie Healy-Rae:

That Management of this MD would seek to upgrade the Old Tralee road that runs parallel to the current N22 from 4 Park down to Shanahan’s Garage in Farranfore through grant funding or own resources. This is now a very popular amenity/walkway in the area and forms one of the Farranfore Sli na Slainte walks from the Railway Tower down to Shanahan’s.

That this Council state how much Councillors Allocation from this MD has been spent in 2020 in the following breakdown, wages/labour, materials, machinery, trafficmanagement etc.

That the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District prepare an application seeking funding under the Active Travel Scheme to ensure that the works required to provide a bicycle lane and walkway to and from Scoil Dhun Chaoin are included in the next round of applications.

Cllr. Michael O’Shea:

To ask Kerry County Council if there is sufficient parking in place for the summer ahead to cater for the heavy traffic that will emerge the Magherabeg, Fahamore, Kilshannig areas of Castlegregory to avoid congestion and that access points be put in place from proposed car parks to the beach.

To ask Kerry County Council to carry out road widening i.e. sand bank removal at the entrance to Magherabeg I Kilshannig L-5014-L8020.

Cllr. Michael O’Shea:

To ask Kerry County Council to carry out an intense clean-up of Inch before Summer 2021 i.e. skirt all roads and footpaths leading to the beach, provide dustbins at I adjacent to the beach, erect signage to prohibit dog fouling at the car park and general beach area and erect finger point signage to the defibrillator as surf trucks are currently blocking this view.

To ask Kerry County Council and the Tll to provide an exit slip road off the new N70 connecting with Tinahalla Cross serving Callinafercy and Kilderry to improve access and to avoid the risk of a serious accident.

I am calling on Kerry County Council to look at the possibility of providing more safety road marking and rumble strips in the vicinity of Anablaha National School, Kilcummin.

Cllr. Charlie Farrelly:

I wish to ask Kerry County Council to give urgent attention to the following bridges in the Castleisland LEA Area which have been seriously damaged by vehicles. The two bridges at Knockatee, Cordal within 70m of each other on the L 10720 and L 10721. One of these bridges is extremely dangerous to pedestrians including local children due to the unguarded drop into the river. The other bridge is Adrivile bridge in Scartaglen on the R577. This bridge got a bash in recent times and the front stonework is falling out towards the main Road. 20.

I am calling on Kerry County Council, Castleisland LEA to make contact with the owners of the severely overgrown short section of hedge beside the new nursing home on the L2029 road at Kilbannivane, Castleisland. This overgrown hedge has been the cause of damage to both lorry and car mirrors and is extremely dangerous when walking past as it is in urgent need of cutting back when the seasons allow.

Can Kerry County Council consider in the near future the budgetary provision of a School Warden at Gneeveguilla National School?

Cllr. Fionnán Fitzgerald:

Can an Electricity Pole at Corbally, Firies be removed as it is a danger to road users and narrowing the entrance to a private dweller on the road?

Cllr. Fionnán Fitzgerald:

Can the L-11047-0 at Farranfore have potholes filled to allow walkers, cyclists and general road users use it in safety. it is now very much used by walkers and it is dangerous in places underfoot. 4. Cllr. Fionnán Fitzgerald:

Can the L-2033-0 at Lisheenbawn Cross be skirtedand drained during the year 2021. it held a lot of water along it during the months of the winter just gone past.

Can Kerry County Council confirm that all outdoor furniture fees have now been waived by the Government?

What is the latest update from the Kerry NRDO in relation to the upgrade for the four crosses in Farranfore?

Cllr. Breandán Fitzgerald:

lt’s a matter of urgency that businesses are informed what they can do outdoors for this Summer under the Safe and Welcoming Streets Plan and Outdoor Dining Scheme. A weekly review process must be put in place like last year to ensure that any measures introduced under the review of the Safe and Welcoming Streets Plan meet with requirements of locals and businesses alike.

When will the drains and side of the road up along the Conor Pass Road from the old creamery in Dingle be cleared and cleaned and as much space as possible be provided for people walking or cycling it safely?

Will the recent Government announcement on the roadmap for the reopening of society in Ireland change or alter the Castleisland & Corca Dhuibhne MD

Cllr. Michael O’Shea:

To ask Kerry County Council to carry out road widening on the L 12098 to facilitate a footpath from Ard de Seda housing estate to the football field I Scoil Naomh Eoin Baiste Community facilities at Lispole.

Cllr. Michael O’Shea:

To ask Kerry County Council and Tll to put in place and to continue the footpath at Brackhill Cross Castlemaine, at the boundary between Cronin’s Shop and Filling station and the N70.

To ask Kerry County Council to seek funding from the Department of Transport to put in place a trafficcalming system at Lispole to also include a pedestrian crossing between the church and the local shop.

What is the update on the warning road markings on both directions leading to Loughfouder N.S. in Knocknagoshel.

What is the update on the site at the top of the town which is been overgrown with Japanese Knotweed. This site has been the centre of two previous motions of mine.

That Castleisland and Corca Dhuibhne MD write to the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine and request that Ireland’s new marine research vessel the RV Tom Crean be officially named in Dingle with a proper naming ceremony and that the RV Tom Crean do a sail past Minard from where Tom Crean enlisted in the Royal Navy in July 1893 along with Patrick Kennedy from Doonties.
