Keep the ball rolling is the message from the Castleisland Members’ Golf Club this week as the club launched a fundraising Golf Classic this Friday in aid of the new golf club and to keep the golf club sustainable into the future. The Classic will take place on the 13th and 14th of September and the club would like to invite all golfers whether members or visitors to take part.
“This golf classic is an important one as it will help to sustain the viability of Castleisland Golf Club going into the winter months and beyond,” said men’s club captain, John O’Connell. “The club is an integral part of the local area here in Castleisland and it provides an outlet to golfers in the region, it is also a great outlet for the young people of the area and it would be a shame if the club closed its doors” he added.
The Golf Classic is a 3 person team stableford event with loads of surprises and prizes over the weekend. The cost of entering a team is €60, €20 per person which is fantastic value and in the process you would be contributing to keeping the Golf Course open and viable into the future. The event is open to members and visitors of all kinds are welcome on the day.
If you don’t play golf but you’d like to help out in some way, you can sponsor a tee box or green for €30 and all sponsors are entered into a draw for a Munster Rugby Season Ticket.
“Castleisland Golf Club has also been a great sporting outlet for the people of the wider area and beyond. I play the course as often as I can and it would be a terrible shame to see it go. I would appeal to the local people to support this event in order to secure the golf club’s future” said Munster Rugby star, JJ Hanrahan.
A new course layout will be in place for the golf classic also which will represent a different challenge for local golfers who are used to playing the course in its original format. The new course layout is interesting and it certainly lends to a new golfing challenge – one that has to be experienced to fully appreciate it.
