The Handed Down series of lectures and sessions is about to reach its fourth outing at the Heritage Centre in Scartaglin on this Saturday night December 20th at 8pm sharp to approximately 10.30pm.
Excellent nights of education and entertainment have been provided in the series so far by the likes of: Paudie O’Connor, Nicky McAuliffe and Geraldine O’Callaghan. They have taken in a wide, geographical sweep of the Sliabh Luachra area – and the musicians therein – on their stints in the spotlight in Scart.
Remembering Johnny O’Leary will be the theme of Saturday night’s event and it will be presented by his grandson and award-winning musician, Bryan O’Leary.
Music on the night will be played by Bryan with his aunt, Ellen O’Leary and Colm Guilfoyle. There will be singing by Gearóid O Dineen and Joe O’Sullivan with his father, John and son Ciaran.
As usual, the running order of the night will include lots of chat and slide-shows of relevant photographs and video clips and plenty of music and song.
“The O’Sulivan family of: grandfather, father and son will sing on the night. Colm Guilfoyle is coming from Kilcummin to play with Bryan and Ellen and Gearoid is going to sing two songs. Bryan has some rare recordings of Johnny and Ellen will be supplying photographs on the night.
We’re expecting a great night at the centre with the ultimate Sliabh Luachra Christmas Party afterwards in the pubs up the village,” said organiser, PJ Teahan.
