A business which hoisted its sails in the teeth of an economic hurricane celebrated its fifth anniversary of trading on Castleisland’s Main Street recently.

Maria Galvin of Galvin Optometrists, 41 Main Street, Castleisland threw a party with a difference to mark the milestone.

While dealing with the normal business of the day, Maria carried on serving her customers with assistants, Sinéad and Denise playing blinders – as the band played on.

“We have been very well received and welcomed by the people of Castleisland and its surrounding villages over the past five years since we opened our doors here,” Maria reflected.

Many Great Friends

“While we are delighted to mark every year of our association with the business community in Castleisland, we felt that in the first five years here we have built up a solid base of customers and many great friends – and that’s progress worth marking. We were delighted to welcome many of them to our celebrations – just to show our appreciation,” said Maria.

“It may seem as a small milestone, but for us it is a very large one,” she said.

“To be open here in Castleisland for five years is an honour. We pride ourselves on providing a local, family friendly optometry business in the heart of the Castleisland community.

“We all love what we do and we try to offer the best, most personalised service that we can.

Highest Standards

“We can assure all of our customers that we will continue to educate ourselves to the highest standard and we are committed to investing in the latest technology advances.

“We would like to extend a huge Thank You to all of the people who have chosen to use our service to date. We look forward to serving the people of Castleisland and beyond for many more years to come,” said Maria.

The band that played on during the anniversary celebrations is known, appropriately enough, as The Remedy. Its members, all friends of Maria’s, include: brothers, Dave and Eoin Reen with Jenny Deetz and Ozzy de Quadros. Another band member, Paul Doolan wasn’t available when the photograph was taken on that occasion.

The Remedy

And, in the All My Life’s a Circle Category is the fact that the Reen brothers Dave and Eoin are sons of Derry and Marie Reen who both worked at the Bank of Ireland here in Castleisland and took full and active parts in the Limerick Road / Desmonds Avenue Tops of the Town troupe.

The Remedy are personal friends of mine. I love their style and I felt that their musical flair would be the perfect way to celebrate five years in business here in Castleisland.

“We had a fantastic day. It was very relaxed and casual and I would like to extend a huge Thank You to all of those who came in and enjoyed the occasion with us.

“Our last celebration was five years ago when we had our first open day. This was a different way of marking our special milestone. Hopefully there will be many more celebrations like this to come our way in the future,” said Maria.

Many Types of Music

The Remedy band members have been playing together for four years. They play a good mix across many types of music. Band member, Jenny Deetz explained:

“We play some classic covers, some Irish classics from: The Pogues / The Saw Doctors / Van Morrison / The Dubliners to Bob Marley / Dolly Parton / The Beatles / Stevie Wonder / Ray Charles… and many more.”

They have played mainly in and around Killarney, Rathmore and Kenmare and are ready and willing to take on gigs further afield.
