If you looked around you you’d miss it. The 2024 An Rás Tailteann paid a flying visit to Castleisland this morning and about a quarter of an hour before its scheduled arrival time.
A crowd gathered at the Church Street flashpoint and on the median strip on Main Street.
There were Gardaí on duty and men of motorbikes – powerful motorbikes and onlookers in a state of preparation.
While there was ne’er a fear that it would pass us by unannounced, it did pass us by in a matter of minutes with all the bells, sirens and whistles one would associated with an event of its status.
It’s Special Place
An Rás Tailteann holds a special place in the hearts of the area because of the many local men who took part in the gruelling event over the years and the 1960s were, probably, the greatest years of interest and of local involvement.
While the passing through of An Rás today was a welcome development, there was a magic all of its own and a multiplication of excitement about a stage end. We can hope.
