Goose Out On Stanley’s Enclosure

I’ve been summoned to the Stanley Divane Pavilion several times over the years on photographic duties. World famous cyclist, Seán Kelly was mobbed there in the mid 1990s and Donncha Ó Dúlaing dropped in a few times on various errands. The late, great Páidí Ó Sé called in to collect a car and more recently the new Kerry boss, Eamonn Fitzmaurice did likewise.

However, this morning’s visitor wouldn’t leave a feather on the previous VIP’s for the amount of attention it attracted.

VW salesman, John Vahey contacted Radio Kerry and the Goose jokes and suggested captions began.

Divane’s MD Denis Divane particularly liked the one from Liam O’Sullivan from Ballyheigue which went something like: “Dropping in for a Gander at the Deals on Offer,”

Theories abound as to how the young Goose or Gander ? – I didn’t shake it – wound up in Divane’s enclosure. One suggestion is that it managed to fly enough to escape from a Fox during the night and just kept goping and ended up in town.

While neighbours are arriving with Goose appropriate food scraps the people at Divane’s are hoping that the owner, or at least someone who can give the poor bird a good home will come forward and handle the situation.

Never ones to let the grass grow beneath their feet – webbed or no – Divanes invite you to come in and have a Gander around for yourself. They can be contacted on:  S. Divane & Sons Ltd., Killarney Road, Castleisland, Co. Kerry. Tel: 066 7141253 / fax: 066 7142635 /  sales@divane.ie
