There is no shortage of talented people in this and the communities around us. An email from the Macroom based event organiser, Pat Melia might just provide the audience and the spur for the gifted among us to show-case that talent.
For each of the past four years Mr. Melia has been organising a talent competition just south of the border entitled Macroom’s Got Talent. Last year’s competition was open to the county of Cork and that expansion proved a great success.
“Following on from the success of last year I have been contacted by some people through facebook etc to enquire if it was possible to run a Munster event. That is what I have decided to do and would appreciate if you could put a piece in your on-line newspaper to help promote it,” said Mr. Melia in his email.
“This year sees a new category entitled ‘Best Original Act’ which carries a €1,000 prize for the winner. I found so many young people especially are writing their own work and think it is something that should be encouraged,” he said.
These are just some of the details: Lee Valley Communications presents ‘Munster Talent Quest 2014’ with a prizefund of €6,000 up for grabs. This competition is open to all amateurs of any age and there are different categories to suit everyone’s age group. Categories include 1: Best Overall gets €1,000 plus the Maggie Kingston Perpetual Trophy; 2. Best original act, song, music or routine €1,000; 3. Best U-16 Act; Best band group and best over 50 category.
Heats will be run in your own areas with the final in Macroom, Co, Cork. The first heats will start in early September and competition will be run over a five to six week period. Entry fee for the competition is €20 and closing date for names is Thursday, July 31st 2014. Limited numbers allowed for the competition.
