The Friday Favourite / Postcard from the Past this week is all about Cordal and on a special Saturday in June 2004. Their youth club of the time won the All-Ireland YC Basketball title and they arrived home in triumph on that Saturday evening in June.

There was great hulabaloo on the street and I just happened to be in Sheila Prendiville’s at No. 22 and the team and management obligingly arrived over to the door and posed for this photograph.

It represented a huge achievement for the small club at the time and further underlined the depth of skill for the game and club commitment there was, and still is, in the locality. They were coached by the omnipresent Martina O’Donoghue.

The honour winning team was made up of: Stacey O’Sullivan, Jennifer O’Connor, Sharon McCarthy, Christina Fleming, Aisling O’Connor and Martina O’Donoghue, Coach. Back from left: Ann O’Leary, Fiona O’Connor, Jamie McCarthy, Mike Fitzgerald, Paudie Walsh, Pat O’Sullivan and Mary O’Sullivan.
