“In 10 sessions you will feel the difference; In 20 sessions you will see the difference and In 30 you’ll be on your way to having a whole new body,” that’s according to An Riocht Athletic Club gym manager, Lisa Horgan at the launch of the winter programme of fitness sessions at the club.

These totally supervised sessions will consist of :

Strength and Conditioning

Intervals of Resistance & Cardio:  A range of weighted and bodyweighted exercises targeting every muscle group mixed with short high intensity cardio intervals. This class is aimed at men and women who want to improve the overall condition of their body. On Thursdays at 6.15PM

Cardio-Kick

Thirty-minute Cardio to music – 30minute Sculpt & Tone.  A huge calorie burn workout using every muscle in your body!  In this class you will be doing lunges, squats, weights, bodyweight core work, planks abs & lots more. On Tuesdays at 6.30pm

Core

The core muscles are composed of the four abdominal muscles, three lower back groups of muscles and the muscles of the buttocks, hips and pelvis. That’s a lot of muscle that must be strong and work well together. Why this is so key is these core muscles are the starting point for all movement during a run of any length.

The downside to a weak group of core muscles is an inability to maintain good posture while walking, standing or running. If the core can’t stabilize the spine properly, your running will be less efficient (it will take more energy) which means you’ll get tired sooner and move slower. Making matters worse, weak core muscles also places the runner or walker at a greater risk of injury because—again—the spine isn’t properly stabilized.

The type of injuries that are common with runners because of a weak group of core muscles are low back pain, inflammation of the pubic bones, stress fractures of the hip and pelvis and tendonitis in the hip, pelvis and groin.

This 30 minute core class is beneficial for men & women of all ages and all levels of fitness from those who want to avoid back pain to those who want better performance and condition.  It will develop ‘your’ core irrespective of starting point.  Great value at just €25 for a 6 week course. On Tuesdays at 7.45pm
