Nora Fealey brings us up to date on preparations for the big GAA celebrations in Cordal.

The dust won’t have settled on on the Cordal GAA Club pitch when, once again, Páirc Na gCúlach will host a visit from another Uachtaráin Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Aogán O Fearghail on Sunday, June 7th.

This will be the second time within two years that a president of the GAA has paid a visit to the Cordal club.
In 2013 the club played host to former GAA President, Liam O’Neill after they were crowned All-Ireland winners of the SuperValu Community Fund Award.
On this occasion we will see the president officiate at the  grand opening of the recently redeveloped pitch. The entertainment will kick off on Friday, June 5th with a club social where the music will be provided by The O’C Trio.

On the Saturday night of the big weekend it’s time for sand and beach buckets as Kilmurry National School will hold a Beach Party. This is opened to all national schools pupils from 7pm to 9pm. Admission is €5 per child and €10 per family and all adults are free.

The night will be finished off with a ‘Traditional Rambling House.’ On Sunday morning members of the club will attend the 9.30am mass in Cordal. From 12 noon the U-10 and U-12 Teams will take part in – challenge games. These will be followed by the official opening of the pitch and facilities by An tUasal Ó Fearghail at 1.45pm.

At 3pm Cordal will take on Firies in Round 5 of the County Senior Football League. The children from our U-6 and U-8 will take part in a challenge game at half time.
Music on the day will be provided by the Killorglin Pipe Band. There will be live music in the clubhouse bar from 5.pm with Dan Dan and Wallop the Cat.
There’s something for everybody over the Whit weekend in the area and we would love for everyone to come and view our fantastic new facilities and spend and afternoon or two with us here in Cordal. Please contact 087 22 85 653 for further details and ticket sales.
