Rosaleen is Reaping for U.S. Special Games Volunteer Role

Castleisland’s Dark Rosaleen is neither sighing nor weeping but full of youthful enthusiasm for a major volunteering project she’s embarking on in Los Angeles this July.
“I have been volunteering with Special Olympics for the last five years. This will be my second world games which I am really looking forward to. It is taking place in LA in July and I have a total of  €4,750 to raise. I have a ‘mycharity’ page which people can go on to donate. The live link is pasted at the end of the story.
I have two Ed Sheerans tickets that I will be raffling. Tickets will be €20 each and there will only be 60 in total and they can be bought from Nana Bea’s Café, Killarney Road and just off the car park next door to the new Library,” said Rosaleen.

World Games Summer in L.A.
On Friday morning the teachers and pupils of her former school, Gaelscoil Aogáin gathered at An Riocht AC for a fundraising event for Rosaleen as she counts down the amount she needs to raise before booking her place as a volunteer at the Special Olympics in the USA.
“The Special Olympics World Games will take place this summer in LA. I have been volunteering with Special Olympics Ireland for over five years. I am delighted and privileged to have been chosen as a volunteer to travel with the team again this summer,” Rosaleen explained.
“I was a volunteer for the Greek games in 2011. Having made wonderful friends and memories for life I am looking forward to helping again this year. Gaelscoil Aogain were great four years ago and helped me in my fundraising. Pupils and teachers completed two marathons in under two hours this morning to help out with this year’s fundraising,” she said.

Volunteer Led Initiative
LA Games Volunteer 2015 Team is a volunteer led fundraising initiative, comprising of 250 individuals who will travel to LA in July 2015, to participate as volunteers at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games. In doing so, LA Games Volunteer 2015 Team will undertake a number of fundraising activities, the proceeds of which will be donated to Special Olympics Ireland.

“I have two Ed Sheerans tickets that I will be raffling. Tickets will be €20 each and there will only be 60 in total and can be bought from Nana Bea’s Café, Killarney Road and just off the car park next door to the new Library,” – Rosaleen.

“Whilst the 2015 World Summer Games is very much a core focus over the coming months, funds raised from this project will assist Special Olympics in achieving its goal. Its goal is to see every person on the island of Ireland who has an intellectual disability given the opportunity to participate in a sport or a developmental activity of their choice in their local community. It is through the continued kindness of our donors, both at home and abroad, that the Special Olympics Ireland team members are aided in their mission of growing and developing their program. This is to ensure that the needs of our 9,500 athletes, and those athletes of the future, continue to be met,” said an enthusiastic Rosaleen.
