Mayor of Killarney Municipal Area, Cllr. Bobby O’Connell will host a meeting for people interested in ensuring and promoting the success of the late September festival, The Con Houlihan Memorial Weekend.
The meeting will be held at The Poet’s Inn on the coming Monday evening, August 10th at 7-30pm.

Anyone who feels they can be of service to the proposed event – which is being planned by Castleisland Rugby Club – will be made welcome at Monday evening’s meeting.

Plans are at a provisional stage yet but are hardening by the day as various ideas and proposals fall into place.
Two certainties for the weekend are: the Kerry Hospice Foundation Ball which is being planned for the Crageens based marquee on Friday, September 25th. Tickets are €40 each and can be booked through any committee member.

So too is the greatly anticipated visit and performance of the Dursley Male Voice Choir at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Currow at 4pm on Saturday, September 26th.

The choir is expected to attract a capacity crowd to the village which creates rugby heroes at a rate that would warrant investigation.
They thrilled audiences around Ireland during a tour in September 2010. They stood on the steps of Listowel Castle one dry Sunday afternoon and sated their open-air audience with a performance that will drive many of them to Currow for more next month.

The Dursley Male Voice Choir was formed in 1978, an English Choir based in the town of Dursley on the English/Welsh border near Gloucestershire. They have performed in Westminster Abbey, St Stephan’s Cathedral in Vienna and in The Royal Albert Hall in London.

Touring is a major part of the life of a male voice choir and The Dursley Choir have entertained in Ireland, Canada, Germany and Austria. They can add Currow after September 26th.

There will be more details on the Con Houlihan weekend as the time draws near. In the meantime, a good turnout at Monday evening’s meeting at The Poet’s Inn is seen as crucial to its success.
