From amid the many tales of woe in the wake of the devastation of the weekend’s storm and rain comes a heartwarming story of a rescued donkey. A donkey stranded in a flooded field was saved thanks to a man with a boat and the Castleisland based AHAR – the animal rescue organisation.
The donkey was trapped in a badly flooded field in Killorglin on Saturday when it strayed from its shed through a gate that had been blown open by the storm.
The  donkey’s owner contacted Animal Heaven Animal Rescue and two men arrived to to save the stranded animal which was sinking fast in the rising waters.
Local man, Mike Fleming used his boat to cross the flooded field and kept the donkey afloat with an inflatable ring before towing it to safety.
A spokesman at the Animal Heaven Animal Rescue base in Castleisland said the donkey is doing fine after a feed of hot mash and having been towel dried.
He has been seen by a vet who prescribed a course of antibiotics. You can catch up on the story and its happy aftermath with a click on the link here:
