The late Fr. Denis Costello, Main St. Castleisland

The late Fr. Denis Costello.
The late Fr. Denis Costello.

The death has been announced of Fr. Denis Costello, (92) formerly of Main Street, Castleisland. In his ministry Fr. Costello served in Peru and in a variety of parishes in Cork and Kerry.

To put his life back in the context of his native town and for the benefit of the generations born since his departure, Denis Costello was born on Main Street in the building which now houses Hickey’s Bar. No slight on his other relations locally but this nephew, Mikey ‘The Legend’ O’Connor is my lightening rod for grounding further inquiries about Fr. Costello’s origins here. May God be good to him.

The announcement and funeral arrangements for the late Fr. Denis Costello read as follows:

Fr. Denis Costello, Main Street, Castleisland; St. Brendan’s College, Killarney; Peru and the parishes of:  Kiskeam, Co. Cork;  Valentia Island and Ardfert, Co. Kerry. January 3rd 2015, peacefully in the loving care of the matron and staff of Our Lady of Fatima Nursing Home, Tralee.
Sadly missed by his sisters-in-law Pauline Costello (Dooradoyle Limerick) and Maeve Costello (Naas, Co. Kildare), nephews, nieces, all extended family, cousins, friends and the priests of the diocese of Kerry.
Reposing at Tangney’s Funeral Home, Castleisland, Co. Kerry on Tuesday evening from 5pm to 7pm followed by removal to Castleisland Parish Church. Requiem Mass on Wednesday at 2pm. Burial afterwards in Kilbanivane Cemetery, Castleisland.
