New Sinn Féin TD Carol Nolan from Offaly will be the keynote speaker at the annual Easter Rising commemoration in Tralee this Sunday.
Deputy Nolan said that Sinn Féin remains committed to the realisation of the vision of 1916 and the implementation of the principles of the Proclamation.
“This year we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Rising. This is an occasion to both reflect upon the legacy of the Rising and Proclamation and the relevance they still hold today,” she said.

“It is also an occasion to celebrate the contribution the men and women of that time made to the cause of Irish freedom. Like modern Ireland, they came from a diverse range of backgrounds, but what they shared was a burning ambition to live in a free independent Ireland.
“Kerry played a pivotal role in the events surrounding the Rising and the first casualties took place here. I am honoured to be the speaker at this year’s commemoration in Tralee and I look forward to meeting with my comrades who have kept alive the memory of the brave men and women of 1916,” the deputy concluded.
The commemoration in Tralee will leave The Square at 12.30pm on Easter Sunday and proceed to the Republican Plot in Rath graveyard. The event will be chaired by Councillor Pa Daly from Tralee.
