Memorable Win for Cordal/Scart in Div. 3A Minor Final

On Friday, April 22nd at Na Gaeil GAA Club grounds, the Cordal/Scart Minors played Annascaul/Lispole in a hugely exciting Division 3A Minor Final.

Cordal/Scart played to perfection and left the field victorious with 4-11 to Annascaul/Lispole’s 2-10. The game got into full swing in the very first minute with an early goal scored by Eddie Horan. Annascaul/Lispole weren’t long matching things with a goal seconds later scored by Cillian Falvey and by the fifth minute they were 2-02 with another goal scored by Ryan Manning.

Finished a Goal

Jason Cronin finished a goal in the seventh minute and scored a point in the 10th minute to etch scores closer with only a difference of a point.

Eddie Horan spent the next eight minutes scoring all around him adding 1-04 to the scoresheet which included scoring a penalty goal after Patrick ‘Yank’ O’Connor was fouled in the opponents’ box.

Cordal/Scart left the half with a comfortable lead of four points with their score of 3-05 to Annascaul/Lispole’s 2-04.

The first half also saw some great play by: Flor McCarthy, Josh Kerin and Kieran O’Donoghue. Sean Walsh also scored a point at the end of the half for the Cordal/Scart side.

Extended their Lead

The second half saw Cordal/Scart maintain their pace and they extended their lead with an early point by Eddie Horan from a free.

Flor McCarthy then scored a long-range point for the Cordal/Scart side in the fourth minute.

Eddie Horan added another point in the fifth minute and Annascaul/Lispole’s Cathal Ferriter scored a point for their side in the eight minute.

The Cordal/Scart side and supporters rejoiced when a goal was booted into the net in the 12th minute by Padraig Brosnan after Patrick ‘Yank’ O’Connor caught a high ball and offloaded it to Padraig.

Strong Lead

Eddie Horan kicked another point for Cordal/Scart and another point was scored by T.J O’Connor two minutes later giving Cordal/Scart a very strong 11 point lead.

Annascaul/Lispole kept fighting and Jack Farrell scored another point for their side with Ryan Manning also fighting hard and adding a further four points to their scoresheet.

Eddie Horan left Cordal/Scart with a very respectable lead making his last score in the 24th minute having added 2-07 to Cordal/Scart’s scoresheet through the course of the game.

Referee Billy O’Shea finally called the game to an end and the Cordal/Scart side rejoiced with their seven point lead leaving the end scores at 4-11 to Annascaul/Lispole’s 2-10.

The Cordal/Scart team played a fantastic game and in particular: Sean Horan, Florence McCarthy and the Man of the Match, Eddie Horan.

The champions sat in wait as Kieran O’Donoghue the captain accepted the winners’ plaque.

Well Structured Speech

He delivered an emotional and well structured speech thanking management, the referee and Na Gaeil for the use of their facilities.

He also thanked Annascaul/Lispole for for the good and sporting game. The Man of the Match Award, was sponsored by Keane’s SuperValu, was presented to Eddie Horan for his fantastic performance.

Well done to the captain, Kieran O’Donoghue for his speech and congratulations to Eddie Horan for winning the well deserved Man of the Match.

Poignant Victory

Also congratulations are in order to whole Cordal/Scart Minors team and to the management which includes: Tommy O’Connor, Mossie Enright, Martin Hewitt and Pat O’Shea.

It truly was a poignant victory and especially so on the Month’s Mind of the late Tom Wrenn. It was great to see all the players pay their respects at his mass in Cordal afterwards.

Well done again to the Cordal/Scart Minors. It truly was a well deserved win.
