Leas-Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann, Fine Gael Senator in Kerry Paul Coghlan, has warmly welcomed the Taoiseach’s appointment of his Kerry colleague, Brendan Griffin TD, as chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport.

“Brendan has been an outstanding TD for Kerry since he was first elected in 2011. He has championed issues at both local and national level and his recent appointment is a testament to his ability as a member of Dáil Éireann. He is respected by all sides of the house and I have no doubt that he will be a fair and impartial chairman.

“The recent reforms of Oireachtas Committees will ensure that Brendan, as chairman, will have the ability to really shape the national debate around infrastructure, participation in sport and growing our tourist industry.

“I am really looking forward to working alongside Brendan in his new role.”
