Sinn Féin spokesperson for Fisheries and the Marine, Martin Ferris TD has called on the Minister for the Marine, Michael Creed to give absolute protection to what is left of the Irish Fishing Fleet.

Absolute Protection
“The decision of the British to leave the European Union has left fishing communities fearful of any deal which officials in Brussels may make with Britain,” said Deputy Ferris.

“Minister Creed and the Government must give absolute protection to the Irish fishing fleet.

Irish quotas should not be sacrificed in any negotiations which will take place.

Fishermen Sold Out
“Too many times we have seen Irish fishermen sold out in deals with other non EU countries and this must not be allowed happen again.

“The future of the Irish fishing industry is at stake and Minister Creed must stand firm in what will be critical negotiations for the livelihoods of many families around our coasts,” Mr. Ferris concluded.
