“First of all, I would like to deeply sympathise with the people of Nice following on from the horrific attack last night on innocent people at a time of celebration and joy,” said Kerry TD Michael Healy Rae – opening a statement of concern over security at Irish airports.
“I do believe that considering the attacks that have been carried out recently all over Europe and I refer to an attack carried out in Ataturk International Airport, Turkey that not just Ireland but all over the world our airports are too wide open to attacks like the one carried out in Turkey.
Deterrent to Attacks
‘The check-in area of an airport terminal is accessible to all who wish to enter and I do believe this to be wrong, that is why I will be calling on the Taoiseach and Minister for Defence to initiate a plan to introduce security measures at the entrance to all of our airports in Ireland to absolutely limit and act as a deterrent to attacks like the one carried out in Turkey’s capital recently.
Additional Security
‘I will also be calling for the Defence Forces to have a presence at our nation’s airports again for additional security, I believe that Europe is under attack at present and I do believe that we are not exempt from this and we need to do everything we can to ensure we limit the chance of anything like this happening in our country and I believe that this would be a good place to start,” said Mr. Healy Rae.
