Seniors Earn Two Points in Valentia

Our Senior team made a long trip to Valentia a worthwhile one as we returned with two valuable Co. league points to keep us very much in the promotion hunt with just two games remaining.

We made a sluggish start as despite enjoying much possession we failed to translate it into scores and the home side led after 10 minutes on a 0-3 to 0-1 scoreline – Padraig McCarthy the Ballymac scorer.

Ballymac then proceeded to dominate the remainder of the half and added 1-9 to Valentia’s 1-2.

TJ Casey accounting for 1-3 of this amount which saw the halftime score stand at 1-10 to 1-5 in Ballymac’s favour.

Valentia pointed on the restart to narrow the gap but points from Daniel O’Shea and Aidan Breen extended our lead.

The homeside then exerted pressure to try to get back into the game but good defensive work by Michael Sweeney, Mikey Leen and David Long ensured there was no way back for the South Kerry side.

Ballymac finished with a flourish with points from Aidan Breen and Christy Leen and a goal from Stephen Bermingham which left the final score Ballymac 2-15  Valentia 1-7.

The only downside on the day was an injury picked up in the second half by outstanding wing back Cian Counihan. Hopefully the injury is not too serious and Cian will be back in the Ballymac colours shortly.

Team: P Laide, L Dunne, M Leen, M Sweeney, C Counihan (0-1), C Reynolds, D Long, L Sweeney, D O Shea, ( 0-1), P McCarthy (0-3), A Breen ( 0-4), E Reidy (0-1), M O Brien, T J Casey ( 1-3), V Horan (0-1), Subs : S Savage, S Bermingham (1-0), C Leen (0-1), G Horan.
