A fundraising event in memory of a greatly loved Castleisland woman, who lost a long battle with cancer last year, has raised much-needed funds for the oncology unit in Kerry University Hospital.

Joan Herlihy, nee Quinlan, a native of Tonbwee, Castleisland, lived in Lissivigeen, Killarney with her husband Dave and their two children, Laura and Paul.

Remarkably Full Life

Joan loved life and the great outdoors and was just 53 years of age when she passed away in February 2015.

In spite of her health problems, she had lived a remarkably full and active life. She completing the 180km Ring of Kerry charity cycle just months before her death.

Community Life

She was hugely involved in many aspects of community life, loving anything to do with nature and outdoor activity.

In her honour, her family and friends held a memorial walk last year and two cycles this year – one 55km and the other 25km.

The most recent event raised an impressive €5,000 for the local oncology unit.

Thanks from Joan’s Family

Dave Herlihy and family have thanked all those who supported the event in memory of Joan either by cycling, donating or volunteering.
