Mixed Fortunes for Kerry Teams

There was mixed fortunes for our Kerry teams on Sunday in Croke Park with our Seniors bowing out to reigning All Ireland champions Dublin.

Our minors reached the final with an excellent display against Kildare. Well done to all involved including our own Micheál Reidy and Tomas O’Connor . A special mention must also go to Fossa’s David Clifford who continued his excellent year with a man of the match performance. David’s mother Ellen is a native of Gortatlea while his uncle Tom O’Shea is a current selector with our senior team.

Ballymac GAA Club had two coach loads of mainly underage players present to support the Kerry teams on the day. Many thanks must go to Jeremiah Lynch for his organisation of this trip and all the trips during the year which gave our young players an opportunity to see the Kerry teams in action.

Narrow Win for Minors over Mitchells

Ballymac 2-14 John Mitchels 2-13
The Central Region competition continued with a home fixture against Mitchels. A close enough game with only a point between the sides at half time and again at full time.Despite being four points down with ten minutes left we managed to turn it around and win narrowly.Mitchels got two early points with Michael Hoare pointing for us. Eoin O’Malley won possession in midfield took a return pass from Keelan ,and soloed through for a fine individual goal. Dara Reagan pointed from a Liam O’Malley pass while Barry Lyons brought off a fine save for us. Mitchels then converted a penalty quickly followed by a point. Liam O’Malley was fouled and Reagan pointed the free ,Chris lowe put Dara Keane through for a point. The visitors again goaled followed by two points. Dara Reagan, Liam, ML Hoare and Dara Keane all pointed for us with Mitchels getting the final point of the half. Half time score Ballymac 1-8 Mitchels 2-6.

Mitchels pointed from the restart with Reagan and Keane pointing for us.Our opponents then got three points in a row with Reagan pointing from two frees after Liam and Josh were fouled.

Two more Mitchells points followed before Josh O’Keeffe got on the end of a Dara Reagan shot and flicked it to the net.Michael Hoare pointed with help from Liam O’Malley.

A vital interception by Eddie Rodgers put Keelan Brosnan on his way towards goal. When he was fouled Michael Hoare stepped up to convert the free and we had won another tight game. Tadhg Brick and Gary Horan worked hard in defence though there is room for improvement on this performance.

Faoi 12

Blue Team: Our Blue team played Miltown Castlemaine in a very exciting Central Region game played on Monday 22nd August in Ballymac.  This game finished in a draw which given the great effort put in by both sides was probably a fair result.

Gold Team: Our Gold team registered a good victory over Miltown/Castlemaine on the same night.  Both teams travel to Killorglin to take on Laune Rangers on Monday 29th August.

Ladies U14 North Kerry League Division 1 (Blue Team)
Due to a large panel of players Ballymac Girls U-14 has the pleasure in entering two teams in the North Kerry League. Having one team does not offer everyone sufficient game time and this way all players will see a lot of football. The Blue team competes in Division 1 and the Gold team competes in Division 3.
The Campaign for the Blue Team began Saturday 27th in Ballymac against County League Division 1 side Listowel at 12pm and Denis Sayers was the appointed Referee.
Ballymac got off to a great start winning the throw in and Cora Savage pointed from the exchange.
Ballymac hit a purple patch that never faded and went in at half time 1-16 to no score.  Management & Supporters were very happy and all instructions were taken on board.
The opportunity to empty the subs bench was taken Cora Savage was replaced due to a leg Injury but with seven points kicked at that stage she had more than earned the rest.
Ballymac went on to kick a further 3-4 to finish the game 4-20 to 1-02.
To give Listowel their credit they fought right to the end and later revealed they were missing one or two of their Panel.
Great praise must go to the defensive effort of the Ballymac backs who held out wave after wave of attack and produced some great counter attacking.
The whole performance was a team effort from one to eighteen so to single anyone out would be an injustice to the others.
Captain for the game was Caroline Hurley who gave a commanding performance between the sticks.
We wish Cora Savage a swift recovery and expect to see her back on the playing field very soon.
Team: Caroline Hurley, Sophie o’Donoghue, Roisin Long, Cait Rice, Emily O’Brien, Sinead McKeown, Eve Creedon, Caoimhe O’Carroll, Aisling O’Connell, Ellie McElligott, Cora Savage, Lisa Curran, Kate O’Connor, Emily O’Donoghue, Ellie Sugrue. Subs: Aoife Galvin for Sophie O’Donoghue, Mary Anne Fleming for Kate O’Connor & Holly Geary for Cora Savage.
Scorers: Cora Savage 0-07, Ellie McElligott 1-05, Emily O’Donoghue 2-04, Aisling O’Connell 0-02, Ellie Sugrue 0-01, Caoimhe O’Carroll 1-00, Lisa Curran 0-01.
