Sinn Féin TD and party spokesperson on Fisheries, Martin Ferris has welcomed the agreement between the National Anglers Representative Association and the Trout Anglers Federation of Ireland with Inland Fisheries Ireland on the future of the latter’s trout production facility.

Deputy Ferris made the comments in the aftermath of the federation’s decision to row back on its proposals to close its hatcheries and discontinue its production of trout for the re-stocking of angling lakes.

Calling on the Minister
“In recognition of the important role the trout production facilities play in angling tourism on the island, I will be calling on the Minister to invest in the facilities to ensure they are brought up to standard to meet the demands of a modern fully functioning fishery,” said Deputy Ferris.

Proper Resources

“Angling tourism is important to many areas throughout the state and needs the proper resources to ensure it can meet it’s full potential,” he said.
