Ballymacelligott GAA Club senior team travelled to Blennerville on Sunday to take on the home side in the final of the St. Brendan’s Board League.

Played in perfect conditions the home side started the better and led by 0 – 7 to 0 – 1 at the end of the first quarter.

An Aidan Breen point was Ballymacs only score. Ballymac then came more into the game and the succession of points from Pádraig McCarthy, Vinnie Horan, Tomás O’Connor and an Aidan Breen free saw the lead reduced to two points by the 20th minute. St. Pats struck for a goal in the 25th minute of the half to extend their lead and by half time they led on a scoreline of 1 – 9 to 0 – 6.

Gap Still at Six Points

Early second half points extended their lead. With Ballymac scores from Aidan Breen and Daniel O’Shea, followed by a goal from Breen, the gap was still at six points with 10 minutes left.

The homeside’s point-scoring ability pushed them further ahead. However, our lads never gave up and an Eanna Reidy goal and points from Aidan Breen and Luke Sweeney saw us with a 2-10 score at the final whistle but it was St. Pats who were crowned champions with 1-18 on the scoreboard.
