Just under two weeks after staging their eighth annual Honda Run for local charities, Jim Griffin and friends were back at Castleisland Day Care Centre.

They arrived on Saturday afternoon with a big ceremonial cheque for the presentation photograph and the smaller, real thing for the bank. The event raised a total of €1,531.

It was from there they sent 74 bikers from all over Munster and beyond off on an 80 mile trek through North Kerry and back on Sunday, September 25th.

Appreciation Reflected

They all left the yard and surrounds of the day care centre close to 11am that morning and returned there that afternoon for a head shaving and leg waxing session and a barbecue.

The upshot of the day’s activity was written across the cheques on Saturday afternoon and the appreciation reflected on the faces of centre representatives, Monica Prendiville and Marcella Finn.

The women are chairperson of the board of management and nurse/manager respectively and they were on hand to play their parts in the final act of the Honda Run 2016.

Words of Thanks

Jim Griffin had words of thanks for all who took part in the day’s activity on the road and at the centre before and afterwards. He particularly thanked all the riders and marshals who continue to contribute to the charities over the years since the event was founded in 2009.

Monica Prendiville marvelled at the spirit of volunteerism at this event and at the centre’s annual fundraising cycle on the first Sunday in September.

“While the HSE may be slow to take up any slack we have at centres like this, we are blessed to have these great volunteers to step up and pull us through.

A Wonderful Thing

“There is a great depth to the voluntary effort which goes into events like the fundraisers we’ve had here in recent times and it’s a wonderful thing to be around.

“The excitement and the sense of community spirit we encountered here on these mornings is really wonderful. We are truly delighted that they thought of us when they were planning their events.

“If any other club or organisation would like to help out with fundraising we’d be delighted to hear from them,” said Monica.
