Thomas Hickey to Lead Desmonds Seniors in 2017 Campaign

He did it with the U-14s a decade ago: Castleisland Desmonds U-14 captain, Thomas Hickey is presented with the Christy Griffin Memorial Shield by Bord Na nÓg representative, Johnny Brosnan. On that occasion Thomas Hickey led his side to victory over Kilcummin in the County U-14 Football Championship final in Currow on a Wednesday evening in May 2007. Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club senior men’s panel have chosen Thomas Hickey as the club captain and Kieran Brennan and Maurice O’Connell as vice captains for the 2017 season.

They play their first competitive game of 2017 on Sunday, February 19th when they travel to Listowel Emmett’s in the North Kerry Senior League. Throw in time in Listowel is at 1:30pm.

Sympathies to Steven Bartlett

The club wishes to pass on its sympathies to senior player, Steven Bartlett on the passing of his grandmother, Mrs. Peggy Bartlett last week.

Return to Action for U-16s

 This Saturday, February 11th sees the club’s U-16 team play their first competitive game of 2017. They will travel to play Knock/Brosna/Duagh in the Castleisland District League. Throw in for this game is set for 3pm.

Kerry V Dublin Ladies

A large crowd attended the Kerry V Dublin Ladies Division 1 National League game in Castleisland on Sunday.

Desmonds had three players involved with Kerry, Eilish Lynch, Andrea Murphy and Loraine Scanlon.

Kerry unfortunately were defeated by 1-08 to 0-8 but Loraine Scanlon picked up the Player of the Match award on the day. This was sponsored by Vincent Murphy Sports. Well done to all club members and officers who helped in making it a great and proud day for the club.

To Those who Manned the Gate

Thanks to the club members and officers who stood for the juvenile church gate collections last weekend in Castleisland.
