Marty Morrissey To Open Abbeyfeale Expo

Abbeyfeale Enterprise Expo has drawn huge attention from all kinds of businesses, clubs and organisations with over 100 stands booked for the Friday night from 6pm to 9pm. and at least 90 more on the Saturday afternoon from 11-1.30pm.

There will be loads happening on both days with a business panel of Abbeyfeale people on the Friday night on stage along with music, song and dance and of course special guest, Marty Morrissey keeping the whole thing going. And not to forget the ubiquitous cup of tea.

Saturday will be for the whole family with a sports panel featuring MEP, Sean Kelly, Seamus Dennison and others.

There will be demonstrations from local medal winners, tours of the fire engine, prize givings and much more.

So write the Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town Expo into the diary for Friday, March 3rd. and Saturday, March 4th. and don’t miss out on a wonderful community event.

A Wake In The West

The Michael J Ginnelly play will continue it’s very successful run with packed houses each night in Fr. Casey’s Clubhouse. Doors open at 7pm. shows Saturday and Sunday night and Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday next week.

Adult Education Centre at Old Tech On Midterm Break

The centre will be closed all next week and delighted to report that building maintenance is ongoing during the mid term break.

Launch Of New Song

William Reidy, son of Big Ivan who along with Big Maggie played music all over West Limerick, has written a song about the late Murt Downes’s protégé Benny Thade, the DJ on West Limerick 102. He plans to launch it in Fr. Casey’s Clubhouse on Monday, March 6 at Benny Thade’s Rambling House. Everyone welcome.

Free To Be – A Personal Development Course

Part one of the course will run in the Further Education and Training Centre, Abbeyfeale with a new starting date, Monday, February 27 and will run for six weeks until Monday April 3rd from 10am. 12 noon.

This very unique course is in two parts and the second part will run in September 2017.

Free to Be has been developed in such a way that it encourages and enables you to look at ways of improving your daily life; manage stress and stressful situations; develop relaxation skills; self-care and re-connect with your inner self.

It allows you a little time to be yourself every week.

This course is free to anybody in receipt of social welfare payments, those who feel they would like to be part of a group, parents, those parenting alone or who have children with a learning difficulty. The annual general meeting of local community radio WL102FM will be held at the Desmond Complex on Thursday, March 2nd. at 8pm sharp. All welcome.

Abbeyfeale St Patrick’s Day Parade

A church gate collection will be held before all masses on Saturday and Sunday February 25th. and 26th. to help defray the costs of the parade.

The parade on St Patrick’s Day will start at Mountmahon at 4pm and will be led by the Rathkeale Brass Band.

It will proceed down Main Street and past the reviewing stand in The Square. Prizes will be awarded for Best Float, Best Youth Entry and Best Dressed Window.  Further details next week.

Free Workshop On Internet Safety

West Limerick Resources, in conjunction with the ISPCC, is running a free evening workshop on Children’s Internet Safety for parents, guardians and all other interested individuals, living throughout West Limerick.

The workshop will take place in the Family and Community Hub in Newcastle West on Monday, March 20th. from 7pm – 9pm. Pre event registration is essential.

Community Alert Notes

Inspector Niall Featherstone of the National Crime Prevention Unit has the following message for all communities:

“The Gardaí cannot fight crime alone without the support and cooperation of the community.

Everybody has a role to play in attempting to prevent and reduce crime. I would encourage all members of the community to actively consider how they can contribute to this goal.”

There have been two burglaries recently in the Abbeyfeale hinterland so joining the text alert scheme and keeping an eye out for strange vans, cars and callers is up to everyone in the area.  There is a crime victims helpline available on Freephone 116 006.

Their hours are Monday from 10am. to 7.30pm. Tuesday to Friday from 10am. to 5pm. Saturday and Bank Holidays from 2pm. to 4pm.

Outside of these hours you can leave a message and your call will be returned during the next Helpline open hours.

Tourism Accommodation Funding and Information Evening

Grant funding through the LEADER Programme 2014-2020 will be open for tourism accommodation applications from Friday, February 17th. Dance On St. Patrick’s Night

The Friends of St Ita’s Hospital, Newcastlewest recently purchased a brand new mini bus costing €62,000 to commute patients to and from the hospital to social activities outside and within of the hospital and the community.

A dance with music by the Premier Blue Boys along with special guests Noreen Ashe from Annascaul and Marian Kirby From Caherconlish with Mike Mini Moore McCarthy Duagh will be held on Friday, March 17th in the Railway Bar.
