The numbers attending recent ‘Open’ events at the Kerry College of Further Education in Tralee were estimated as being in the hundreds.

The evening for Parents of School Leavers was attended by interested parents looking for options for their early school leavers outside the Leaving Cert points system.

Parents Impressed

“The feedback from parents was very positive and parents were particularly impressed with the range of programmes on offer,” said Mary Murphy, assistant principal and PRO at KCFE.

“They very much appreciated being informed of how the further education programmes here at KCFE can allow students to access very high point courses in universities and institutes of technology.

“This may otherwise prove difficult to secure if dependent on performance in the traditional leaving cert.

Best Attended Day Ever

“Our open day was by far the most well attended one we have ever held. We had the ‘Spinnies’ from Spin South West here on Thursday morning and of course local Radio Kerry’s Brendan Fuller with his live outside broadcast on the Afternoon Show.

“Most secondary schools in the county supported the event with bus loads of school leavers arriving throughout the day to learn all about the exciting range of options, view the facilities and explore the workshops.

Hundreds Passed Through

“Overall we can safely say that hundreds passed through in what was a day that evidenced massive demand for post leaving cert courses in Kerry.

“Acting Principal, Carmel Kelly and the management team at the college wish to thank all who made it a very successful event but in particular to all those who attended,” said Ms. Murphy.

The KCFE prospectus is available from the college office on 066 71 21741 and applications for courses are now being taken online at www.kerryfe.ie
