An Garda Siochána may well be all over the news these days but they’re all over the roads of Kerry today.
There is some serious checkpointing going on in the area today and tonight.
High Visibility Campaign
Huge manpower is being brought into play as the high visibility campaign on the roads around Castleisland, Tralee and Killarney makes its presence felt.
It’s your average checkpoint but there are more of them today than for a while. There is another edge to the operation in that the checkpoints are also on high alert for roving criminals targeting Kerry from other parts of the country.
Even so, motorists can expect their vehicles to get more than a cursory examination and it’s no harm to have tax and insurance and test paperwork in order and on display.
43 Killed on Irish Roads
Road Safety campaigners are horrified at the reality that 43 people have lost their lives on Irish roads so far in 2017.
They have been calling for more Garda checkpoints and greater visibility on the roads in a bid to reduce this alarming statistic.
If you’re out and about in your vehicle today make sure you’re sober at least and have all your bits and bobs of paperwork on the window and your license in your pocket.
