Ballymac were out in round two of the County League which was away to Fossa on a beautiful sunny Spring day where conditions could not be any better in what is a prequil to the first round of the Junior Championship it was always going to be competitive game and this proved to be just that.

Ballymac started off very well and scored four points without reply until Fossa broke from the deep showing some fine football to end up on the edge where they found the back of the net. It was score for score throughout the first half which saw Fossa go in at the break up two points.

The second half saw a similar game to the first half with each team fighting score for score in the battle but Ballymac showed their might and edged it out to win by two points.

Well done to all the players and management on a fine performance.

Minor News: Ballymac 4-10 Beaufort 0-11

Our third County League fixture was at home to Beaufort last Saturday evening. Played in brilliant spring sunshine we could have been further ahead at the break, but we pulled away in the second half to win easily. High-energy performances from Josh 0’ Keeffe and Tadhg Brick helped in no small way to secure two more league points.

Michael Hoare pointed early on for us and when Barry Lyons was fouled, Daire Reagan pointed from the free. Beaufort also added two points. ML. Hoare then won possession, passed to Daire Reagan who worked his way through for a well-taken goal.

Cathal Dunne put Dylan Dunne through for a point with Beaufort also pointing.

The visitors added two more points before Tadhg passed to Cathal who in turn picked out Barry and as he made his way goalwards.

Tadhg Brick was again on hand to finish to the net. The half time score was Ballymac 2-4 Beaufort 0-6.

The second half started well for us with Barry Lyons scoring a goal after good work by Cathal and James Mc’Donnell. However, Beaufort replied with three unanswered points. ML. Hoare and Daire Reagan pointed from frees, followed by a point each from Daire Reagan and a fine point by Daire Broderick. Beaufort again pointed, while at the other end Josh intercepted a kick out and drove through for a fine goal. D. Reagan and Michael Hoare scored our final points with the visitors getting a late point. Eddie Rodgers, Keelan Brosnan, and Chris Lowe all played a vital part in this victory, which is a huge boost ahead of the visit of Fossa next Friday evening.

Senior Ladies Div 4 County League:  Fossa 5-7 Ballymac 3-7

Our second Co League game was played in glorious sunshine on Sunday morning. Similar to last Sunday our first half performance was well below the required level and we were behind 5-4 to 1-3. Nicola Horan getting 1-1 , Emma Sweeney and Una Kerins adding a point each.

The second half was a complete change with the Ballymac girls throwing off the shackles and they played some fantastic football.

We added 2-4 to Fossa’s 0-3 and had we taken more chances we could have easily won the game. Rose Ann O’Shea gave us solidity in goals.

Grainne Kerins commanded at full back, Tara and Micheala Murphy hoovered up lost of ball and cleared effectively.

Claire Kenny had a fine game and closed down the Fossa centre forward and in doing so cut off their go to for kick outs

Aine Rice and Una Kerins drove forward along with Veronica Heaslip and Heather Jones at wing back.

Nicola Horan, Emma Sweeney and Leah O’Neill did the finishing up front assisted by Rachel Godley and Veronica O’Donnell. It was a very encouraging performance by all involved.

U-12 Girls North Kerry League Division 1: Abbeydorney 3-4 Ballymac 1-7

Saturday afternoon in Abbeydorney our U-12s kicked off their first game against the home side in the North Kerry Ladies Division 1 league .

We started very well and had a lot of play but were finding it hard to get scores mainly down to the strength of the Abbeydorney defence.

The home side got the first score of the game after 10 mins a point we responded with an Ella Quirke goal but Abbeydorney tacked on 2-3 before half time to leave it 2-4 to a goal.

The switching of Ciara Palmer and Geraldine Cassidy to midfield and Roisin Rahilly to centre back and Alexia Weiss to full back gave us a lot more balance and go forward ball.

The girls really put it in for the second half and with five minutes to go we had pulled the lead back to two points and were looking to go and win it.

However, a late Abbeydorney goal gave them the breathing space they needed. We scored the last point of the game to leave three points between us at the end.

A great display against a physically stronger team and all girls played well on the night.

Goalie and captain, Kerry Hennessy was fantastic. Alexia Weiss, Roisin Rahilly, Alice Brosnan and Abbey Leahy did well in defence. Ciara Palmer and Geraldine Cassidy at midfield and in the forwards Rachel Creedon, Kate Collins and Ella Quirke stood out and Rachel Griffin, Kate Feeney worked their socks off.

Team: Kerry Hennessy , Kate Feeney, Geraldine Cassidy, Alice Brosnan, Abbey Leahy, Ciara Palmer, 0-1; Kate Collins, 0-1; Roisin Rahilly, Alexia Weiss, Rachel Griffin, Rachel Creedon, 0-3; Niamh Lynch, 0-1; Allie Tarrant and Ella Quirke, 1-1.
