Desmond Lotto Tonight at The Shoemaker’s Bar

Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club Lotto takes place tonight, Saturday April 1st. in the Shoemaker’s Bar. The jackpot is at €2,800. Tickets at €2 or three for €5.

All-Ireland Champs Plunder League Points

The 2017 Junior All Ireland champions Glenbeigh-Glencar came to play Desmonds in Castleisland in Round 2, Division 1 of the County League on Sunday.

This game was played in brilliant sunshine and in front of a large crowd.

After 12 minutes of play the home side led by 1-5 to 0-1 and playing with a strong breeze.

Credit to the Visitors

Graham O’Connor scored 1-1 from play and Cian O’Connor added two points and a point each from Maurice Hickey and club captain, Thomas Hickey – while Glenbeigh-Glencar scored just a single point from Kieran Courtney.

But credit to the visitors they did not panic and they scored two points from Gavin O’Grady and Tommy Cahill with 10 minutes left in the half.

Thomas Hickey scored a point from play and that was his last action as he came off injured and was replaced by Kieran Brennan.

Further points for the visitors came from: Daniel Griffin, Colin McGillicuddy and Gavin O’Grady. Desmond’s went in at half time leading by 1-6 to 0-7 points.

Strong Wind Advantage

The second half saw Glenbeigh-Glencar take full advantage of the strong wind and this was to see them take the lead with 14 minutes played.

With scores from Daniel Griffin, Stephen O’Sullivan, Pa Kilkenny and Tommy Cahill left the scores at: 1-07 to 0-11.

During this period the visitors were well on top and they got two goals from Gavin O’Grady and Pa Kilkenny to lead 2-12 to 1-8.

With six minutes left in game, the home side was looking a second defeat in this year’s county league.

Desmond’s tried hard to get into this game but with only four points scored in the second half it was to see them lose this game by 2-13 to 1-10.

Subs: Kieran Brennan, Cian D. O’Connor, Tomás Lynch, Ciaran Breen, Micheál Walsh, Gearoid Leonard, Conor O’Shea, Marc O’Connor, Eodhan Browne and Tadhg Walsh.

The next game is in Round 3 of the County League when they travel to Tralee to play Austin Stack’s on Sunday, April 9th at a time to be confirmed.

Congrats to Lorraine, Eilís, Andrea and Aisling

Congratulations to Lorranie Scanlon, Eilís Lynch, Andrea Murphy and Aisling Leonard who part of the victorious Kerry ladies team that beat Armagh the weekend and to Labhaoise Walmsley who was on the winning Kerry ladies minor team that defeated Waterford in the Munster championship.

Well done to Kayla O’Connor and Gemma Kearney who both played starring roles for the Kerry U-16 team that narrowly lost to Cork in the Munster Championship 4-11 to 5-9 last weekend.

Girls U-6 and U-8 Training on Monday Evening

Desmonds Girls U-6 and U-8 training for the year starts on Monday April 3rd in the Castleisland Community Centre from 6pm to 7pm.

It will continue there for a few weeks before moving to the Desmond’s pitch. The cost of the centre is €3 per player per week.

Fixtures for U-12s and U-16s

The U-12 team play its first game of the county league on Sunday, April 2nd. away to Ballyheigue with a throw in time of 6pm.

The U-16s will travel to play Ardfert in Round 3 of the Central Region League on Monday, April 3rd throw in at 7pm.

They played Round 2 of the Central Region League where they defeated John Mitchels at home on Monday, March 27th on the score of 5-9 to 3-9.

Goals were scored by Jonathan Healy, Jamie Heffernan, Cathal Shire and Darren O’Donovan. Overall it was a great team display on the day.

Minor Team Defeated

Desmond’s minor team was defeated by Gneeveguilla on Saturday night on the score 6-6 to 2-12 at home in Round 4.

Team was: Ben Cooney, Kevin Mahony, Luka Brosnan, Lorcan Hickey, Ryan McGuire, Pádraig O’Connell, Paul Walsh, David Shanahan, Adam Donoghue, Danny Hickey, Ethan Reidy, Adam O’Donoghue, Stephen Murphy, Patrick Horan, Pairic O’Connor, Kevin Keane and Conor O’Sullivan.
