Expressions of interest are being invited from members of the public and local, community, voluntary groups for a share of grant aid under the 2017 Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

The Town and Village Renewal Scheme is an initiative under the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development, Realising our Rural Potential, and is part of national and local support measures to rejuvenate rural towns and villages throughout Ireland.

Suitable Project

In an email, Cllr. Bobby O’Connell wishes to alert locals that the deadline is approaching as Kerry County Council is seeking ‘Expressions of Interest’ from towns and villages with populations of less than 10,000. Of particular interest are those who may have a suitable project for consideration under this scheme.

All Expressions of Interest will be assessed based on the priorities as contained in the scheme outline. A maximum of 15 proposals will be selected for development into detailed applications, which will be submitted to the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs for final approval.

Clear Positive Impact

Project proposals must include activities that will have clear positive impacts on the town or village making them more attractive places in which to live and work, and to increase their tourism potential. Extra priority will be given to projects which can stimulate economic activity between a town/village and neighbouring townlands.

Up to 80% of the total cost of a project can be provided for any individual project. The minimum grant which is available is €20,000 and the maximum is €100,000.

All interested groups must complete an Expression of Interest Form and return to the Community Department, Kerry County Council, Rathass, Tralee or email to community@kerrycoco.ie no later than Monday the 15th of May at 4pm.
