A new suite of Performing Arts courses in Music and Dance has been launched at Kerry College of Further Education in Tralee.

From September, interested students can obtain a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Music or Dance with a number of focus areas including performance, theatre and music technology.

Knowledge and Skills

The new courses will equip students with the knowledge and skills to perform dance or music in a number of styles as well as develop theoretical awareness of dance, music or theatre traditions.

The course development was undertaken in partnership with Kerry County Council Arts Office, Siamsa Tire, the Institute of Technology, Tralee and local dancers, musicians and educators.

Work Experience Built In

Work experience is an essential part of the course and will provide students with the opportunity to put their skills into practice.

Students will work with choreographers, music industry professionals, theatre professionals and technology experts and also participate in the production of live performance.

The Level 5 Certificates will enable graduates to progress to Higher Education or undertake careers in theatre, dance, music, community arts initiatives, education programmes, event production and sound engineering.

Artistic and Creative County

“We are delighted to be able to develop a Performing Arts Department at Kerry College of Further Education,” said Carmel Kelly, Acting Principal at Kerry College of Further Education.

“Kerry is a vibrant, artistic and creative county and has produced musicians and dancers of national and international acclaim.

“Providing opportunities for dancers and musicians to study and work in Kerry will enhance the quality of our artistic community further and contribute to the social, cultural and economic life of the county,” said Ms. Kelly.
