Ballymacelligott U-14 girls who played their final county league game on Sunday in Ballymac against Killarney Legion.

Ballymac U-14 Girls played their final county league game on Sunday in Ballymac against Killarney Legion.

Ballymac won the encounter with a five goal nine points blitz of their opponents in the first half and a rock tight defence that leaked a mere point.

The comprehensive lead afforded Ballymac to roll out the bench in the second half and although the scores did not come as easy Cora Savage managed to tack on another two points to win the second half with the Killarney side only managing to score a single point.

This result leaves a mouth watering final against Rathmore. The teams played a thrilling  draw in Rathmore last time out in very difficult conditions.

The team today lined out as follows: Lorna Daly, Ellie Lenihan,Aoife Galvin, Millie Dunne, Grainne Galvin, Roisin Long, Alissa Leen, Emily O’Brien, Sinead McKeown, Mary Ann Fleming, Cora Savage, Roisin Rahilly, Laura Dunne, Kate O’Connor and Shonagh Griffin. Replacements : Yvonne Hurley, Holly Geary, Jade Riordan, Emily O’Donoghue, Sophie O’Donoghue, Kerry Hennessy, Emma Leen, Ciara Palmer, Abagail Martin, Katie Enright, Eimear Curran.

Scorers: Cora Savage 3-7, Kate O’Connor 2-1, Sinead McKeown 0-2, Mary Ann Fleming 0-2, Shonagh Griffin 0-2, Yvonne Hurley 0-1

Numbers one to 26 were outstanding but special mention again must go to Cora Savage who finished top scorer but also selflessly played her teammates in for some well worked scores,

Kate O’Connor in full forward scoring 2-1 proved a vital link for the team winning and off loading a lot of ball that ended up as scores.

The second half was a bit more open as both sets of forwards began to make inroads. With Kate Collins and Laura Sugrue goaling we looked good with 10 minutes to go leading 2-5 to 0-3.

Two goals by Cromane changed the complexion of the game but we held out to win by one point. Ballymac 2-6 Cromane 2-5.

The boys U-12 blue team started the second phase of the County League at home to St. Senan’s on Sunday evening.

The team performed well overall but our inability to do it for the full game cost us. We started well but the game ran away from us before half time.

St. Senan’s led by eight points at the break. Michael Culloty, the Horgan twins, Luke and Aiden and Sean Rice were playing well.

With improved effort and great team spirit, we came back into it. Our subs in particular were very good. Alvero Marquez, Sam Mansfield and Michael Prendergast were getting on the scoresheet. Cian McCarthy also impressed and we brought them back to three points.

We could not get the scores we needed in the last five minutes to win it.

St. Senan’s scored two more points to win on a score line 5-10 to Ballymac 4-8. Well done to the lads on a great team effort. Training continues Tuesday and Friday at 7.pm.
