Innocent Stranger’s Trial by Mob Rule and Facebook

Move to new Castleisland Garda Station 07/12/2011A spokesperson at Castleisland Garda Station has confirmed this evening that the man who was hounded in and around the town today is completely innocent of what he has been accused of and has no association with the man he has been compared with.

The man’s identity has been ascertained by the station and he has no connection whatsoever with another man whose photograph was put side-by-side with his.

Disgraceful Campaign

After a disgraceful campaign of abuse and bullying today the homeless man – who speaks with a distinct Kerry accent – has satisfied gardai here of his innocence.

Yet he has been vilified on Facebook and described in terms most foul and he tried to take refuge in public buildings in various parts of the town today. He was being followed by gangs of youngsters who kept taking photographs of him and calling him names.

These youngsters were informed of the man’s innocence and told go stop tormenting him.

For their Own Sakes

The people behind the Facebook campaign were also advised to take down the photographs and the comments for their own sakes.

The Garda spokesman also said that any innocent person is entitled to his or her good name and this man has nothing to answer for.

“All he needs to do now is go to a solicitor and the Facebook allegations can be traced back to their origins and then those who contributed to it are in trouble,” said the spokesperson.
